Birth

Edgar Lewis Tallman was born September 3, 1907, in Medusa to Fletcher D. Tallman and Alice W. Freleigh. His birth certificate and affidavit of birth list his name as "Lewis Edgar" however he always went by "Edgar Lewis".

Education

He attended the Sayre District school in Rensselaerville.

Occupation

By the time he was 22 years old in 1930, Edgar had moved from home and was living and working on a farm for a 75 year old farmer named William Smith in Rensselaerville. He later lived in Durham, in nearby Greene County working on the farm of his future father-in-law, Everett Cook. After marrying and moving, worked for the Van Cuylar Hotel also in Schenectady, until he got a job working for General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y., as a carpenter.

Marriage & Children

On June 3, 1934, Edgar married Roberta Mae Cook, daughter of Everett Cook and Florence Elnora Rivenburg and lived in Rotterdam, Schenectady Co., NY where they had three children:

  • Joan Marie Tallman
  • Shirley Jeane Tallman
  • Robert Edgar Tallman

Death

Edgar died while at work at General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y. February 16, 1953. At the time of his death he was 45 years old. He was buried in Fisher Cemetery in Rotterdam.

Funeral Service Thursday afternoon 2 o'clock from the Bond Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited. The funeral home will be open Wednesday evening after 7 o'clock. Interment Fisher Cemetery, Rotterdam, NY.

Tallman Dies of Heart Attack, Rites Tomorrow
Funeral services for Edgar L. Tallman, 45, of 1860 Stewart street, who died of a heart ailment Monday at the General Electeric Co., hospital, will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the Bond funeral homer and burial will be in Fisher cemetery. Rev. Donald Boyce, pastor of Dutch Reformed Church, Westerlo, will officiate. Born in Rensselaerville Mr. Tallman was a carpenter at GE where he had been employed during the 20 years he had lived in the area. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Roberta Cook Tallman, two daughters. Miss Joan Tallman and Miss Shirley Tallman, all of this city; his mother, rs. Alice Tallman, Feura Bush; a sister, Mrs. Elmer Van Alstyne, Feura Bush; six brothers, Charles, of this city, Frank, Ernest and William of East Berne, Huyler of Dormansville, and Clayton of Clarksville, and two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Humphrey, Delmar and Mrs. George Warner, Schoharie. The funeral home will be open tonight after 7 o'clock.
