Birth

David was born in Schoharie on March 27, 1767, a son of Hendrick Kniskern and Eva Schaeffer. He moved to Albany County prior to his engagement in the Revolutionary War.

Military

David served as a private in an unnamed company that was hastily formed under the command of Adam Dietz on or about March of 1782 and further along in his service the company was formed and he served under Lieutenant William Shultus and William Zimmer was the ensign. He was discharged in November of 1782.

Marriage and Children

He married at the Schoharie Lutheran Church, Schoharie, NY on June 6, 1797, Anna Margaret Kniskern who was born on July 14, 1770, a daughter of Johan Peter Kniskern and Margaret Keyser. They had the following children:

Death

The dates of death or place of burial for David and Margaret have not been learned but since David lived in Knox at age 87, it is presumed that is where he died. Both he and Margaret were listed in the household of their son, Paul, in Berne in 1855.
