Bassler, Cyrus
Birth
Cyrus B. Bassler was born July 21, 1841 in the Town of Knox to John Bassler (B. Nov 15, 1802) and his wife Catherine Ann Weidman (B. Nov 19, 1811).[1] He was one of three children.[1]
Occupation
Cyrus farmed with his father John.[2]
Marriage & Children
Cyrus married before 1870 to Jane Onderdonk, who was the daughter of Abraham Hatfield Onderdonk and his wife Katherine Flansburgh.[1] They had one child:
- Lora J. Bassler (B. 1868).[1]
Unfortunately his first wife Jane died on August 9, 1870.[1]
After the death of his first wife, on May 5, 1875 he married Jane A. Daring, who was about a decade younger having been born in April 1852.[1] She was the daughter of John Daring and Lena Maria Boomhower.[1] They had three children:
- Manford J. Bassler (B. April 28, 1876, D. March 27, 1949)[1]
- George D. Bassler (B. Feb 1879, D. 1957)[1]
- Isaac F. Bassler (B. Aug 1883, D. May 15, 1935)[1]
In addition to his own children, he helped raise his daughter's child:
- Vertie Bassler (B. abt 1893).[3]
Residence
Cyrus and his family lived with his parents on the family farm, and after their deaths he remained on the family farm.[2]
Death
When Cyrus' first wife Jane Onderdonk died on August 9, 1870, she was buried at Beaverdam Cemetery in Albany County, NY.[2]
Cyrus died on May 17, 1907 and he is buried in the Berne and Beaverdam Cemetery.[1]
His second wife, Jane A. Daring, lived for many more years dying on November 4, 1934 at age 84 and she was buried at Berne and Beaverdam Cemetery.[1]
