Birth
Andrew Daniel Secor[1] was born on March 6, 1758 at Rockland County, NY.
Military
While living in Haverstraw, Rockland County, NY, he enlisted and served as a private with the New York troops as follows: From March 1, 1776 for nine months he served in Captain Bell’s company in Colonel Green’s regiment and was in the battle of White Plains where he received a wound in the thigh.
From June 1777, he served 3 months in Captain Tallman’s company, Colonel Hay’s regiment.
In 1778 and 1779, he served various tours equaling 6 months in all under Captains Acker and Tallman and Colonels Cooper and Hay.
He was in the engagement at Stony Point about a week before it was captured and during that time, also served as a substitute for several of his brothers whom he did not name.
From September of 1780 he served six months in Captain Gardner’s company of rangers, and from the spring of 1781 until the close of the war was frequently called out to serve in the militia during alarms.
Marriage & Children
Andrew married Catherine Hayes at about 1774. Catherine was born on December 29, 1751.[1] Their known children were:
Death
Catherine died on March 9, 1842 and Andrew died on June 13, 1844[2]. Catherine’s marker still exists at the Lake Rural Cemetery in Berne, but Andrew’s no longer exists if there ever was one.
